We are better together than we ever will be alone

We have to be aware of, not just the resilience of people everywhere, but the power of prayer to turn drastic and devastating situations into conduits of the miraculous. The willingness of people to commit to action on behalf of others, whether known to them or not, is one of the hallmarks of this country. I hope it's a spirit that is never lost, no matter what the political or economic climate becomes. This principle of "Do unto others..." is part of the biblical foundation of this country, and it remains with us still.

Through tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, floods and more, and their aftermath, I have seen the best in average people, churches and other organizations, come out to help assist the victims. As of this writing, tornadoes in the midwest and the Southeast, the Mississippi River is cresting, and along its path from Minnesota to the Gulf, it has left farmlands flooded, homes ruined, and livelihoods destroyed.

Even in that destruction you still see the principle of "Do unto others...," as neighbor assists neighbor, as helpers fill sandbags, and as churches wake up and rise to part of their original calling--to help the weak, the afflicted, the ones in need . Again I am reminded that we do not prepare only for our sakes alone, but so that we can be a conduit through which others might survive. Through every skill you acquire, through every means of preparation that you make, you are empowering not just yourself and family to survive, but to be a ray of light and hope to others in need, whether on a local or national scale.

If we intend our preparations only for our own personal benefit, then we are the poorest of people. It is through caring about others and the relationships we build that we find the best within ourselves, along with the ability to survive and surmount nearly impossible odds. We are better together than we ever will be alone.

Quote of the Week
"My God! How little does my fellow man know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which the lost on earth do not enjoy!"
